Arriving and Self Tour of Verona

The room Ben and I stayed in for the week we stayed with Cristina and Flavio, their three kids: Carlos, Pablo and Xenia and of course Michael, our fellow guest and native English speaker from Australia! Comfy beds and plenty of space... definitely an upgrade from our sleeping bags and tiny three-person tent :P

Here we are eating dinner the first night in this beautiful room with large windows. 8 people to feed so definitely a feast :) During the first few days we ate each meal in this room because of the uncharacteristically warm weather in Sona but after that we moved inside because the temperature was beginning to drop.

Ben and I got dropped off in Verona by Flavio and walked around for a couple of hours. We started at this fanatastic church. The doors depict various stories from the old testament (on the right) and new testament (on the left).

So of course since we were walking around with directions AND a map, we got lost. But we found these ruins, which I am pretty sure are ruins of walls made by the Romans. They really got it right!

This bridge was built by a family that supported the Roman Emperor (not the Pope) and was designed to protect the inhabitants from the people of Verona, if a uprising were to occur.

The remnants of a gate that was built during the Roman period. Still in pretty good condition :)

The streets of Verona :)

Here we are overlooking the beautiful view of Verona. Thanks for taking us Flavio!!!
