On 28 January we took a comfortable, air conditioned bus ride from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai. It took about three hours and we drove through the mountains on curvy, scenic roads.
We took a tuk tuk from the bus station to our guesthouse.
Jenna and her dapper self on the way to Baan Bua Guesthouse ;)
This is an entrance to a temple near the guesthouse where we stayed.
The scenic views on our way to the famous White Temple, also known as Wat Rong Khun.
We saw the most extensive, what appears to be, rice fields on our tuk tuk ride to the White Temple.
Here is the White Temple. I was built by a local artist and parts are still under construction. It is incredibly ornate, as you can see in all of the photos below.
Jenna had to rent a beautiful, bland, white sarong since she forgot to wear pants that covered her knees. She sure works that white skirt though! ;)
The sculptures at the beginning of the temple were a bit morbid in nature but the detail and overall message could not be more clear. Mary, I think you would have loved this temple!
Bells surrounded an 'oasis' of vegetation that surrounded a statue of a sitting Buddha.
Here is Buddha seated beneath this beautiful roof structure, which I am sure has a specific name that is eluding me.
These were the traffic cones outside of the White Temle. No doubt the local artist also designed these.
Next we headed to a little cafe that is filled with cats. They just wander around the customers, sometimes playing with people, sleeping or just being properly aloof.
